Broken Hearts Disorder the Mind – The Sickness of “Mental Health”

A broken heart will disorder the mind, but in our society we attempt to order, suppress, contain the heart by means of psychological and psychiatric control which will always be desperately ineffective for a broken heart. One who is cut off from a broken heart will have a mind which endlessly circles *around* the very thing it is trying to reach but somehow cannot.

Crazy behavior is sometimes just an eruption of the soul which is calling out, which defies form, which has finally broken free. We teach them our words for something which can only be worded by them — we take away their authorship, their agency and their right to name their own experience. Without a language of the heart, they will fail to communicate — and the language of modern psychology is very often not a language of the heart.

My experiences have added up to the single conclusion that Jesus is the heart that psychology circles around but never reaches — we talk about healing in endless terms; DBT, ACT, CBT, New Age, mindfulness, wellness, psychiatry, psychology — we are amassing endless varieties of “healing modalities” which are mere obsessions of the truth being circled around: Jesus, and his ability to restore and resurrect any heart that is willing.

How is this not a contradiction of what I just said? Am I not giving Jesus the agency which I said should be restored to the “mentally insane”? A person who is mentally disordered by a broken heart (specifically originating there, and not in the mind, as many mental health disorders do originate there) will attempt to restore sanity linguistically and symbolically by all the means which are bestowed through *culture* but unless that culture offers a way to communicate to the heart they will be helpless — as most often are.

I have met a few people in this life whose hearts were well — and where mine found rest. I have exhausted means. The only one who could resurrect my heart such as to make it complete, to restore the mind through the heart, was Jesus. I have wished it could be through other means but it hasn’t.
